This program was a joint initiative with Senior Action Quebec to promote volunteering within the senior population as a tool to reach out to isolated English-speaking seniors and to provide them with the required information on the services available to them.
The objective of GPS was to recruit volunteers, most of whom were seniors themselves, to offer support to other socially isolated English-speaking seniors within the Black community. The seniors were ultimately connected to programs and services that respond to their needs and which helped reduce their social isolation. “Getting Programs to Seniors” built a bridge between vulnerable seniors and the network of professionals within their community. Our goal was to raise awareness about the available services and programs to increase their ability to navigate the public system.
This project was a two-year project and was funded in part by the Government of Canada`s “New Horizons for Seniors Program”.
Due to the success of GPS, we have since created a Senior’s Summer Program which has since been extended in 2019 to an all year-long Senior’s Program.
